Beloved crooner Barry Manilow is dying! That's the terrifyingfear of friends who are alarmed over the legendary crooner's shocking shrunken appearance. As these dramatic photo show, the 62 (65) year-old singer of hits like Mandy and I Write the songs is so sick thin, he's swamped by his clothes and appears to be wasting away.A source says the 6-foot entertainer looks like he weights no more than 100 pounds. One stunned eyewitness, who spied Manilow strolling with a male friend along a Malibu, Calif., beach earlier this month, described the star as a "human skeleton.""When I first saw Barry step out of his Range Rover I was absolutely shocked at how thin and gaunt he appeared," the source tells GLOBE. "He looked liked a scarecrow. "It looks like he's not eating. His stomach reminded me of a malnourished child in a third-world country."I'm no doctor, but his appearance is alarming. You have to wonder whether he is suffering from a serious illness-or even dying."Adds a concerned friend, "Barry looks like he's dying. He seems to be wasting away. He's emaciated, except for his stomach which is bloated."He looks like he's dropped as much as 20 pounds in recent months. "His face is shrunken. His arms are bony and his legs are like sticks. I think that's why he keeps them covered up as much as possible. "Poor Barry looks frail and weak and much older than his age, despite all the plastic surgery he's had trying to hold back the hands of time."And Dr. Gabe Mirkin, a Maryland fitness specialist, says a pianist like Manilow should have muscles in his forearms - but they're not there. "He has little muscle tone anywhere on his body, including his abdomen which is protruding because of lack of musculature to hold in the belly," says the doctor."I would wonder if the lack of muscle tone indicates he has a serious health issue."A former three - pack - a - day smoker who quit in 1978, Manilow survived a terrifying health crisis in 2004. The singer, who's sold 80 million records, was rushed to a Palm Springs hospital with stress related chest pains and irregular heartbeat. He also underwent hip surgery in 2006. But his recent skin-and-bones look has raised fears that he might be suffering from an agonizing illness which is ravaging his body.
"It looked like he was in pain," says the source. "He was very shaky and slow getting to where he was going."Even fans are expressing their alarm over his health on Internet postings. "Did you see his big stomach sticking out?" says one. "But the rest of him looks bone thin. He walks like his health isn't good." Adds another, "I can only imagine that, if we were able to see Manilow's legs and chest, we'd assume he was sick.."The friend also notes that Manilow is having trouble walking. "He underwent hip surgery almost two years ago and following the recovery period, he was doing really well," notes the friend. "He has a pretty high-octane act and was back on stage pretty fast. But now it seems his hips are bothering him again. "Lately, he's been limping quite badly and is clearly in pain. I'm sure he doesn't want to have any more operations, but that might be his only chance to ever walk properly, let alone perform, again."But his hip problems can't be the reason he's lost so much weight, the friend adds."That's what's got his friends worried," says the pal. "He's skin and bones. People are asking, 'What's wrong with Barry?' "We're all praying for him."-Jordan Rodack and Lynn Allison
