22 February 1977 "Los Angeles: Pianist-arranger-singer Barry Manilow wears a star necklace as he tells and interviewer about Wednesday night's "The Barry Manilow Show" on television.  He call is "the best special ever conceived for TV."  Maybe he wasn't serious, but he believes in himself.  Manilow arranged, conducted and played piano for Bette Midler during the rapid rise of her carreer, then took off on his own."
